The new offering, Intelligent Commerce Connect is designed to let AI agents discover merchants and complete purchases on behalf of users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.visa.com\/en\/products\/intelligent-commerce-connect.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The service is <\/a>currently being piloted with a number of partners, including AWS, with general availability expected to occur by the end of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch is aimed at positioning Visa for the expected growth of agentic commerce, though projects vary widely and remain speculative. Some forecasts have been ambitious\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/capabilities\/quantumblack\/our-insights\/the-agentic-commerce-opportunity-how-ai-agents-are-ushering-in-a-new-era-for-consumers-and-merchants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McKinsey for example, has suggested <\/a>that the U.S. retail market could reach as much as $1 trillion in agent-driven transactions by 2030. However, such estimates depend on significant advances in the technology and adoption. Other data points suggest a much earlier-stage market, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.precedenceresearch.com\/ai-agents-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Precedence Research<\/a> estimating global agentic commerce at under $8 billion in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-available-for-any-credit-card\">Available for Any Credit Card<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Visa, the platform includes features such as secure payment initiation, tokenization, spend controls, and authentication for agent-initiated purchases. It\u2019s not limited to Visa transactions; it also integrates APIs from other card networks alongside Visa\u2019s own, and can connect with multiple payment token vault providers, allowing agent platforms to work across different vendors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When an AI agent initiates a purchase, the system identifies the appropriate payment credential, replaces the card number with a token, and routes the transaction through the relevant network. It also verifies that the agent is acting within the parameters set by the users before passing payment credentials to the merchant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-big-leap-into-agentic-ai\">A Big Leap into Agentic AI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The release builds on Visa\u2019s earlier push into agentic commerce, following last year\u2019s introduction of Visa Intelligent Commerce, which enabled AI agents to use stored Visa credentials at accepting merchants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a very strategic move and a natural extension of what they\u2019ve built with the Visa Acceptance Platform,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/javelinstrategy.com\/our-team\/don-apgar-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Don Apgar<\/a>, Director of Merchant Payments at Javelin Strategy &amp; Research. \u201cThis effectively enables every VAP-connected processor and acquirer to offer a turnkey agentic commerce platform that\u2019s interoperable with all of the current standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to remember that Visa\u2019s customers in card acceptance aren\u2019t the merchants, but rather the acquirers, processors, and PSPs,\u201d Apgar said. \u201cVisa didn\u2019t bring VAP to market to compete with their customers by servicing merchants directly, but rather to enable their customers to bring new technology to their end-user merchants faster than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visa is introducing an on-ramp for merchants to tap into its AI-driven Intelligent Commerce platform.
